I’m a new runner….I’ve been in the process of losing weight, and I have a long way to go still. One of the things I have decided to do was the C25K training program on CoolRunning.com (also at c25k.com). I’ve done it in the past and had good success with it – but like many, got off track.. I haven’t been active in over a year and the year before that I worked with a personal trainer for an entire year. I’ve been in and out of cycles of working out for a few years.
Because I have such a long process (needing to lose more than 90 pounds at this point – 15 pounds lost so far), I decided to look for something to motivate me to keep moving and came across a half marathon takes place in Disney World. I happen to be a very big fan of going down to Walt Disney World and we do it quite often. So my question to myself was, did I see myself being able to finish a half marathon? I had to sit on this question for a couple of days.
Would I be disappointed if I trained for it and didn’t finish?
I told my husband about the idea, and his response was, what about trying to 5K first.
My response was, what if I can do more.
Don’t want to know what I can do what I can go 6 miles 10 miles, I mean what if I can actually go all 13+ miles if I trained properly?
So after about four days of thinking. I decided to sign up for the Princess half marathon in Walt Disney World, and am quite excited by it. It’s a great way to stay motivated to move through the winter.
I’m currently doing the training program of the C25K, and then moving on to a book called “Marathoning for Mortals”, written by John Bingham known as the Penguin from Runner’s World.
I’ll be implementing a run walk program, and while I had thought that I would do a 4/2, it had been suggested to me that I might be more comfortable working with a 3/1 ratio (three minutes of running to one minute of walking). So that’s my plan right now to train up through March and take on this half marathon.
I’m okay if I don’t finish. In fact, I’ll be proud just to know that I put the time and training in and create better habits in my life. And if I don’t finish – now have a point to beat next year. And I’ll continue to do that until I can finish it.
I’m in the zone and working hard. I’ve lost 15 pounds so far. And while I have more than 90 pounds to lose still the exercise and stretching are helping my flexibility, and my body feels much better. Working out is helping my lung capacity and is making me stronger.
On this blog will be discussing my training, along with products and gear on top of the struggle of finding gear for plus size runner. Right now, it’s one day at a time, and I’m up to week 4 of the C25K.
I’ve been a blogger for over three years, and when you start something new like this. It’s a natural process to want to start a new blog. It’s what I do, so, I hope you’ll join me along for the ride and in a couple months I’ll be pleased to say – I have attempted, and hopefully finished my first half marathon in Walt Disney World.
